What is a Community Land Trust?
A Community Land Trust (CLT) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation that acquires, holds and stewards land and buildings for long-term community benefit. CLTs ensure:
Community benefit – assets are protected for local people.
Community influence – decisions are made democratically.
Long-term stewardship – homes and community assets remain affordable and protected in perpetuity.
Broadoak Community Investments CIC is legally constituted to operate as a Community Land Trust, with the benefit of the community of Hatfield Broad Oak at its core.
The National CLT Network
The National CLT Network is the membership and support body for Community Land Trusts in England and Wales. It defines the accepted standards for:
Community control
Democratic membership
Asset locks
Affordable housing in perpetuity
Accountability and transparency
Broadoak Community Investments CIC aligns with these national principles and meets each of the recognised criteria.
